Good Wednesday Morning!
It's fall in Ohio! Some snow on the grass Sunday and, today, near 65 degrees! Enjoy the day! Today's update will mainly focus on what's upcoming for Advent. Many of you mentioned to me on Sunday that we won't see you the next two Sundays for Thanksgiving travel. That's great and I am glad you can see family. So, I'm sending out some Advent reminders a week earlier than usual. Here we go:
DECORATING THE CHURCH: If you are in town we NEED you! We'll be decorating Saturday, November 27 at 10:00 am. If we have enough people it shouldn't take too long.
ADVENT WORSHIP SERIES: This will start on November 28 and will feature The Popular Songs of Christmas. Last year we focused on the longing we see in the sacred music of Christmas. This year, the secular tunes that are popular this time of year. Many of them carry a longing which can only be satisfied by the infant in the manger, Jesus. On November 28 we'll start with the song, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and look at the longing for hope.
MIDWEEK ADVENT SERIES: I hope you can join us. We'll be off next Thursday but our series will begin on Thursday, December 2 for 3 weeks. We'll be looking at 3 African-American spirituals and see what they have to teach us about the birth of our Savior.
SIGN UPS: Sign up to purchase a Poinsettia for our Christmas services. They are only $10 apiece. Also, we'll be starting signups to help at DNA on Saturday, December 18.
MEN OF NEW CALLY/VIDEO DEVOTIONAL: The only "this week" reminders are that Video Devotionals will be today and tomorrow. MEN OF NEW CALLY - Breakfast this Saturday, November 20 at 8:30 at Boston's in Marysville. Please come join us.
PREP FOR WORSHIP: We're ending our fall series on encouragement and wrapping up our look at the letter to Philemon.
Text: Philemon vs. 17-25
What do you think is the connection between encouragement and having confidence in someone?
What kind of effect can confidence in God's power through a person have on that person?
How can confidence rooted in God's gifting help someone have courage?
I'll be back tomorrow with the materials for our final fall Thursday night class on God's faithfulness. Hope you can join us.
